You are a mentor.
Whether you like it or
not, others with less experience have looked at you as an example. Whether
you knew it or not, you have impacted those around you, whether they be
children, teenagers, adults, coworkers, fellow students, or family members.
Whether you think so or not, you have a lot to offer. The Called to Serve
Program will help you become a more intentional mentor.
What we mean by
“intentional” is that we want you to be purposeful in your mentoring
relationships. As mentioned, you mentor without realizing it. With the help
of the Lord and some of the tools here, you will be able to take mentoring
to the next level. You can understand the impact you are having on others
and make the conscious choice to reach out and lend a hand to someone
walking the path behind you.

You have been mentored.
Whether you realize it
or not, whether you can point to an individual and say, “That person has
mentored me,” or whether you have received assistance from time to time
from many different
people, others have guided you, modeled for you, and instructed you. We are
never too
old or too experienced
to be mentored. Whatever stage of life we are experiencing, we can all use
advice from someone who has traveled that road already. Sadly, most people
must seek out good mentors, and this is where the Called to Serve Program
can help. We connect people who want mentorship with opportunities.

Frankly, we hope that this program doesn’t stick around for long.
We pray that it will
quickly become obsolete. Don’t get us wrong, our wish is that the program
will foster a spirit of mentoring in the church to such a degree that we
won’t need a program to facilitate it. When we say that we hope people will
develop a “spirit of mentoring” we are talking about a passion for reaching
out to others. This is two-fold; 1.) the desire to teach, train and mold
those less experienced; 2.) the desire to learn from those with more
experience. Bottom line, it’s the passion for learning, blessing, loving,
and growing by interacting with others. Satan and our society would much
rather us be alone, striving in darkness than surrounded by a loving support
group helping us develop into the Christian that we long to be. Our prayer
is that the great things this committee has to offer would sink into your
hearts and become part of who you are. That is what
being a mentor
means. |
